Our History

The Sundance Motel was built in 1952. Due to its ideal location, humble yet cozy
rooms, and stalwart, local owners it has withstood the test of time through many
boom and bust cycles. Pinedale, Wyoming was a hard place to live let alone run a
business. It was the least populated county, in the least populated state. The
climate is harsh and it’s the furthest town away from any railroad (the closest
being Rock Springs, Wyoming 100 miles away) thus, the cost of living was high.
However, the trail blazing grit that the town was founded on has stood true with
the Sundance.

The oldest stories of Pinedale revolve around the Green River Rendezvous. This annual event started in the 1830’s. Mountain Men and Native Americans came from miles away and gathered below the Green River to trade items such as guns, pelts, spices, and jewelry. The Rendezvous was a time for gathering new supplies, enjoying the glorious summer months, spending time with friends old and new, and finding peace in nature.

Surrounded by scenic beauty and alluring tourist attractions, The Sundance Motel is situated in the heart of Pinedale, right on Pine Street. It offers a wealth of activities just a few steps from its downtown location. Though most things are a short walk, the staff can connect guests with local providers for guiding, rentals, and adventures.

"Absolutely wonderful people and atmosphere. Great rooms comfortable beds, and the owners didn’t miss a beat when I called and needed some of my left behind belongings shipped to me. Would love to bring my family on a trip to the area someday and Sundance motel will be our choice for lodging!"
